Who I am
Thank you for visiting my blog! My name is Blue and I’m a late-twenties nerd who loves reading, crafting and journaling. I’m also getting more into movies and tv shows. Some of my favorite IPs are Lord of the Rings, the Witcher and Pokemon.
On this blog I will be writing book reviews, craft reviews (primarily cross-stitching), journal tips and spread inspiration, movie reviews, game reviews, and anything else that may interest me in the moment. I may also share my weekly meals, to keep myself accountable and to share some inspiration.
I live together with my fiancee and our senior dog, in a pretty small apartment. This means we sometimes have to think outside of the box for space. I struggle with IBS and often have no appetite, which makes eating difficult. This is a reason why I want to share my meals on this blog. I work a 9-to-5 office job in IT, and often feel like my life is a little bit boring. If you also feel this way please follow along so we can all share our experiences with trying to breathe some more excitement into our life.
My rating system
I will usually give a book (and/or movie) an initial star rating out of five stars, where the amount of stars mean the following:
5 stars – This book was perfect and I loved it!
4 stars – This book was great and I really enjoyed myself, but I feel there are points of improvement.
3 stars – This book was middle of the road, I enjoyed it but didn’t think there was anything special about it.
2 stars – I did not enjoy this book, but there was a redeeming part of it that kept me slightly intrigued until the end.
1 star – I should have DNF’d this book way earlier, but for some reason I finished it. I can find no redeeming qualities in this book.
I also like to further elaborate my thoughts on a book with the CAWPILE rating system. This is a rating system that was invented by G from Book Roast (I can also strongly recommend their channel in general). You can find the original explanation video here. In short the CAWPILE rating system encourages you to think about seven different aspects of a book and give a rating from 1 to 10 to each of them. These are then counted up and divided by 7 to give you a rating between 1 to 10 for the full book. The seven aspects are:
- Characters
- Atmosphere/Setting
- Writing style
- Plot
- Intrigue
- Logic/Relationships
- Enjoyment
